Because of lifestyles that demand so much out of personal time, more people these days take showers than long baths. But this doesn’t mean that the shorter showers are short on the pleasures associated with leisurely baths; it only means that we must cram as much enjoyment into the brief moments under the spray.
We didn’t lose the heavenly bubble baths altogether–we can keep the suds, and the fragrance too! Thank you, bath gel! The very act of creating lather and applying it onto the skin is incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. Add to that the absolutely divine smells that permeate the air, care of the bath gel, and you’ve got a delightful pocket of “me” time.
Bath gels are wonderful for the skin too. Most bar soaps have high alkaline level pH, some reaching as high as 10, and this is very harsh on the skin, causing dryness and irritation. Bath gels, on the other hand, have pH levels that are comparatively lower, coming close to matching the skin’s naturally slightly acidic pH, around 4 to 6. So as you rinse off, you don’t get that squeaky feeling (which you get from most bar soaps), which cues moisture has been stripped off your skin. With bath gels, because of their composition and additional moisturizers, you get soft, silky smooth sensations after your shower.
